# LinkedIn Banner Size and Dimensions (2026)

**Quick answer:** Your LinkedIn banner should be 1584 x 396 pixels: a 4:1 ratio, saved as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB.

It's one image that stretches across the top of your profile, and the same file shows on desktop and on a phone. If the number was all you needed, you have it. What trips people up is the crop: LinkedIn trims the image differently on different screens, so where your text sits matters as much as the pixel count.

The dimensions, file types and 8 MB cap are LinkedIn's own. The safe area isn't: LinkedIn doesn't publish one, so treat it as a keep-clear estimate.

You can upload a bigger file at the same 4:1 ratio (3168 x 792, say) and LinkedIn will scale it down, which keeps the banner crisp on high-resolution screens. Going smaller than 1584 x 396 is the mistake. LinkedIn stretches the image to fill the space and it goes soft.

## What gets cropped (the safe zone)

Two things cover parts of the image.

![A 1584 x 396 LinkedIn banner with the central 1350 x 220 safe zone highlighted. The side strips are marked as cropped on mobile, the lower band as hidden behind the profile photo, and the round profile photo overlaps the bottom-left corner.](https://www.ghostwriting-ai.com/posts/sizes/banner-safe-zone.svg)

*The green block survives every screen. The hatched strips get cropped on phones or covered by your profile photo.*

1. **Your profile photo** sits over the bottom-left corner on desktop. Anything you put there ends up behind a circle.
2. **The mobile crop** trims the left and right edges. A phone shows a narrower slice than a laptop, so anything pushed to the far sides disappears for everyone reading on their phone.

That's why the safe area is the center block, about 1350 x 220 pixels. Keep your headline, logo, tagline or [QR code](https://www.ghostwriting-ai.com/tools/linkedin-qr-code-generator) inside it and it survives every screen. The outer edges are decoration you can afford to lose.

## Common mistakes

- **Text in the corners.** The bottom-left goes under your profile picture and the far edges get cropped on mobile. Center anything you want read.
- **Uploading a 1920 x 1080 image.** That's 16:9, not 4:1. LinkedIn crops the top and bottom off and you lose most of the picture. Resize to 1584 x 396 first.
- **A busy photo behind your headshot.** Your face sits on top of the bottom-left corner, so keep that corner calm.
- **Low resolution.** A small file scaled up looks blurry next to everyone else's sharp banner. Start at 1584 x 396 or larger.
- **Tiny text.** On a phone the banner is only a couple of inches wide. If the tagline is small, nobody reads it.

If you'd rather start from a background that already keeps that corner calm, pick one of the [free LinkedIn cover photos](https://www.ghostwriting-ai.com/tools/linkedin-cover-photos) and add your text on top.

## LinkedIn company page cover and logo size

A LinkedIn Company Page cover is 1512 x 256 pixels and the logo is 400 x 400, both as a JPG or PNG under 3 MB. The cover is wider and shorter than a personal banner (about 6:1 against 4:1), so a personal banner uploaded to a Page won't fit.

| Spec | Company page cover | Company page logo | Personal profile banner |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Dimensions | 1512 x 256 px | 400 x 400 px recommended, 268 x 268 minimum | 1584 x 396 px |
| Shape | About 6:1 | 1:1 square | 4:1 |
| Max file size | 3 MB | 3 MB | 8 MB |
| File types | PNG or JPEG | PNG or JPEG | JPG or PNG |
| What sits on top of it | The Page logo, bottom-left | Nothing | Your profile photo, bottom-left |
| Who can change it | Page admins | Page admins | You |

Older guides still quote 1128 x 191 for company covers. LinkedIn's own spec is 1512 x 256 now, listed as both the minimum and the recommended size, so design at exactly that. The 1128 isn't made up, though. It's the width of a different image: the main photo on a Page's Life tab, at 1128 x 376.

Three things change when you go from your own banner to a Page cover:

- **It's shorter.** 256 pixels of height fits one line of large text or a logo lockup. A headline with a tagline under it won't fit. Keep text centered for the same mobile-cropping reason as a personal banner.
- **The file cap is smaller.** It's 3 MB, not 8, so a double-size export may not fit. Export at exactly 1512 x 256. LinkedIn says a high-resolution JPG comes out sharper than a PNG.
- **Both bottom corners need room.** The logo sits over the bottom-left, so keep that corner calm, the same way you keep your own banner's corner clear of your headshot. LinkedIn's own advice is to keep key details away from the edges, "especially in the lower-right corner", and to put what matters in the center, since the cover can be trimmed to fit different screens.

For the logo, start from a 400 x 400 square and leave a margin around the mark. LinkedIn shows it small, next to posts and in search results, and a logo that runs edge to edge is hard to read at that size.

## How to change your LinkedIn banner

1. Open your profile on the LinkedIn desktop site or the mobile app.
2. Tap the camera or pencil icon on the current banner at the top of your profile.
3. Choose Add photo or Change photo and select your 1584 x 396 file.
4. Drag to reposition inside the crop window, then confirm.
5. Save. The new banner goes live right away for everyone who visits.

A Company Page works the same way: open the Page as an admin, click the edit pencil on the cover, and upload your 1512 x 256 file.

## Make a banner that fits on the first upload

You don't need Photoshop to hit 1584 x 396. Oiti's free banner maker starts on a canvas that's already the right size, with the covered areas shaded, so your text never lands under your profile photo or off the edge of a phone. ## Frequently asked questions

### What is the exact LinkedIn banner size?

1584 x 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio, as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. One image covers both desktop and mobile.

### Does a 1920 x 1080 image work as a LinkedIn banner?

Not cleanly. 1920 x 1080 is 16:9, so LinkedIn crops the top and bottom to force it into 4:1 and you lose a big strip of the image. Resize to 1584 x 396 before you upload.

### Where does my profile picture cover the banner?

On desktop it sits over the bottom-left corner. Keep logos and text out of that area so nothing important hides behind your headshot.

### Why does my banner look cut off on mobile?

Phones show a narrower center slice than desktop, so anything near the left or right edge gets trimmed. Keep key content inside the center 1350 x 220 safe zone.

### What size is a LinkedIn company page banner?

1512 x 256 pixels, as a JPG or PNG under 3 MB. It is wider and shorter than the 1584 x 396 personal banner, so the two are not interchangeable.

### Can I use a bigger file for a sharper banner?

Yes. Upload at the same 4:1 ratio but larger, like 3168 x 792, and keep it under 8 MB. LinkedIn scales it down and it stays crisp on retina screens.
