# I Tried AuthoredUp in 2026: Honest Review of the Best LinkedIn Formatter (and What It's Missing)

> The best formatter on LinkedIn. No AI. The world moved on.

**By Aitijya Sarkar** - Published 2026-06-06 - Updated 2026-06-13 - 14 min read

## The scorecard (my honest verdict)

I scored AuthoredUp across the six things that actually decide whether a LinkedIn content tool is worth paying for in 2026. Not "does it have a calendar" — every tool has a calendar. These six are about whether the thing writes like you, remembers you, keeps your account safe, and — in AuthoredUp's case — formats your posts cleanly, which is the thing it was actually built to do.

But that number needs a caveat, because AuthoredUp isn't trying to be an AI writer. As a pure LinkedIn content formatter, it's a 4.5. As a complete 2026 LinkedIn content tool, it's a 2.8 — and the gap between those two numbers is the review.

**Overall verdict: 2.8 / 5**

| Axis | Score | The one-line truth |
| --- | :--: | --- |
| Formatting & preview quality | 4.5 / 5 | Still the best in the category. The reason AuthoredUp earned its name — the cleanest preview around. |
| Hooks & templates library | 3.5 / 5 | 300+ hooks and post endings. Genuinely useful, but ChatGPT commodified the swap-a-hook workflow. |
| AI writing / persona | 1 / 5 | None. The dashboard says an AI ghostwriter is on the way. As of writing, there's nothing. |
| Long-term memory & knowledge base | 1 / 5 | No memory, no KB. It formats what you paste — it doesn't learn who you are. |
| Analytics & insights | 3.5 / 5 | Solid content analytics baked in. A real strength for a tool at this price. |
| LinkedIn safety (official APIs vs extension) | 3 / 5 | An ethical, well-behaved Chrome extension — but it's still an extension, in a category LinkedIn is clamping down on. |

I weighted formatting high because that's what AuthoredUp is for, and it nails it. But if you're a solo founder, coach, or consultant who needs posts that aren't ai slop in 2026 — not just posts that look clean — the AI, memory, and knowledge-base axes are the ones that matter most. And those are empty.

I personally think Oiti is a better fit for that use case — it has long-term memory that gets more like you with every edit, a knowledge base it writes from, and it runs on LinkedIn's official APIs instead of a Chrome extension. It formats just as cleanly, too. It's $49/month or $79/month, 7 days free, no usage limits. You can [try Oiti free](/) and score it on the same six axes.

How do I know all this?

Because I used AuthoredUp back when it was one of the only LinkedIn post formatters in town — and I logged back in this year to see what changed.

## Who I am, and how I actually used AuthoredUp

I've spent the last six years ghostwriting LinkedIn content for 50-60 founders, coaches, consultants, and CXOs — across SaaS, crypto, insure-tech, deep tech, basically every B2B niche there is. Somewhere north of 100 million organic views between them. In that time I've used virtually every LinkedIn AI tool that exists: Taplio, SocialSonic, AuthoredUp, and a long tail of others.

AuthoredUp I go way back with. I used it around 2020-2021, when I was still ghostwriting for individual creators, CEOs, execs, and founders. Back then it was one of the earliest Chrome extensions trying to build something ethical using a LinkedIn chrome extension — and that mattered, because most of what existed in the category was sketchy. I mostly used it for the preview: I wanted to see exactly what the line breaks and formatting would look like before I hit post. They also had a hook-variation and ending feature where you could swap hooks and get formatting variations. I think I paid for it at some point.

I logged back in this year — 2026 — while building Oiti, the world's first AI clone for LinkedIn content. I wanted to see what five years had done to a tool I genuinely liked.

The honest headline: the formatter is still rock solid. It's the rest of the world that had moved on.

## What is AuthoredUp?

AuthoredUp is a Chrome-extension-based LinkedIn post formatter, previewer, and analytics tool. It markets rich text styling — bold, italics, bullet points — with a live preview of exactly how your post will render, a library of 300+ hooks and post endings, unlimited drafts and snippets, one-click post reuse, and content analytics that go deeper than LinkedIn's native view.

They were pioneers of an "ethical Chrome extension for LinkedIn content" idea, back when there were none. That earned them a lot of goodwill with creators, and a lot of it still holds.

That's their pitch. Here's what I found when I jumped back in.

## How AuthoredUp actually works — a walkthrough

### 1. AuthoredUp onboarding — step one is installing a Chrome extension

When I signed up, the first thing AuthoredUp wanted me to do was install its Chrome extension. That's the foundation of the whole product — the extension is what rides alongside LinkedIn and powers the preview, the styling, and the analytics. The trial doesn't even ask for a credit card, so there's nothing stopping you from trying it first.

But the extension is the thing to sit with. Everything AuthoredUp does, it does through a browser extension layered on top of LinkedIn.

Hold that thought — it comes back in the breakdown.

![AuthoredUp "One last step" modal: "In order to unlock AuthoredUp's full functionalities, you must connect your LinkedIn profile via our browser extension" with an "Add extension from Chrome Web Store" button.](/comparisons/competitors/authoredup/product-screenshots/connect-chrome-extension-authored-up.webp) — AuthoredUp's onboarding — step one is connecting your LinkedIn profile through its Chrome extension.

*Oiti's onboarding takes about 30 seconds, runs entirely on LinkedIn's official APIs, and instead of installing anything it reads your last 100 posts to build a 3,000-word clone of how you actually write.*

### 2. The editor — where AuthoredUp genuinely shines

Once you're in, the editor is the thing AuthoredUp is famous for, and it deserves the reputation. Clean composer, live preview, bold and italic and bullets, total control over line breaks. You can see precisely how the post will look in the feed before you publish. It does this exceptionally well.

![AuthoredUp's editor — a composer with a formatting toolbar (bold, italic, strikethrough, underline, bullets) on the left and a live LinkedIn feed preview of the post on the right, with Preview / Hooks / Endings / Snippets tabs.](/comparisons/competitors/authoredup/product-screenshots/authoredup-editor.webp) — AuthoredUp's editor — composer on the left, a live preview of exactly how the post will render in the feed on the right.

*LinkedIn native formatting is now commodified. Oiti's formatting is just as clean now — and you can actually ask Oiti how to improve the formatting and it tells you, rather than just handing you a styling toolbar. This just isn't a moat anymore.*

### 3. Hooks and templates — useful in 2021, commodified by ChatGPT

AuthoredUp ships 300+ hooks and post endings, plus the hook- and ending swap workflow I used back in the day. In 2021 this was a real edge — a structured library of openers when you were staring at a blank page. It still works. But the moat eroded the day ChatGPT shipped: any chat model now spits out twenty hook variations on demand, tuned to your topic, for free.

The static library is handy. It's just no longer special.

![AuthoredUp's Hooks tab — a scrollable library of fill-in-the-blank hook templates ("What [target audience] MUST consider before [action]?", "[X] Tips To [goal]") each tagged by category (educate, advice, lists).](/comparisons/competitors/authoredup/product-screenshots/authoredup-hooks.webp) — AuthoredUp's 300+ hook library — a structured set of fill-in-the-blank openers.

*Oiti generates hooks from your voice, your long-term memory, and the actual angle of the post you're writing — not a fixed list you scroll through and pick from. Trained on 100M+ views, and a library of weekly updated new posts, it can query and surface patterns it knows are working TODAY, not 3 years ago.*

### 4. Pricing — fair and transparent, but for what?

When I went to upgrade, the pricing page was refreshingly honest. $19.95/month for the Individual plan, no credit card to start the trial, no surprise credits. The price is fair and the page is transparent — I have zero complaints about how AuthoredUp charges.

The catch isn't the price.

It's what you're paying for: formatting, a static hook library, and analytics. There's no AI content layer at all, no infographics, no carousels, nothing. For contrast, Oiti is $49 or $79 — more money, but it includes the entire AI content, viral infographics, memory, and knowledge-base layer AuthoredUp simply doesn't have. And if formatting is literally all you need, I'll say it plainly: AuthoredUp is cheaper, and there are free tools that format too.

Like Oiti's free LinkedIn formatter.

![AuthoredUp pricing page: Individual plan $19.95 per month (1 profile) and Business plan $14.95 per profile per month (3+ profiles), each "Start for free — No credit card required".](/comparisons/competitors/authoredup/pricing.webp) — AuthoredUp's pricing page — Individual at $19.95/mo and Business at $14.95/profile/mo, no card to start.

## Where AuthoredUp is genuinely great

Three things AuthoredUp does well:

### 1. The formatting is the best in the category.

This is the whole reason the tool exists and the reason it earned its name. Cleanest preview, tightest control over styling and line breaks around. If formatting is the job, AuthoredUp does the job better than almost anyone.

### 2. The hook and post-ending library.

300+ entries. Even with AI commodifying the format-swap workflow, a curated library is still a fast way to beat the blank page when you don't feel like prompting.

### 3. The analytics are baked in and good.

AuthoredUp surfaces richer post and engagement data than LinkedIn's native dashboard. For a tool at $19.95/month, that's real value on top of the formatting, and it can only do it because it's scraping that data from your LinkedIn.

The through-line: AuthoredUp is excellent at the surface it chose. The problem is the surface got narrow.

## The problem with AuthoredUp — where it breaks down

Three problems, worst first.

### 1. 1. It's a Chrome extension, in a category LinkedIn is clamping down on

This is the one that can actually cost you something. Everything AuthoredUp does runs through a Chrome extension layered on top of LinkedIn. AuthoredUp itself has always been well-behaved — they don't automate likes or DMs or connections, which is exactly why people love them. But the category is under pressure. LinkedIn is getting increasingly hostile to extensions that ride on top of the platform, even clean ones. Shield Analytics — a LinkedIn analytics product — shut down in 2026 because LinkedIn and Google started clamping down on the category.

*This is exactly why I built Oiti on LinkedIn's official, approved APIs — no extension, nothing sitting in the category LinkedIn is throttling.*

### 2. 2. There's no AI layer — the 2026 gap

In 2021, a formatter plus a hook library was a complete product. In 2026, it isn't. AuthoredUp has no AI content, no infographics, no carousels, no persona, no long-term memory, no knowledge base. When I signed up, the dashboard told me an AI ghostwriter was on the way — but as of writing, there's nothing shipped. So to actually create the post, you pair AuthoredUp with a separate AI tool, then bring the words back to AuthoredUp to format them.

And formatting itself is now commodified. Oiti formats cleanly.

Free tools format well. So the paid value of AuthoredUp narrows to the hook library and the analytics — useful, but a thin reason to pay when the writing, the part that's hard, lives somewhere else entirely.

*This is the whole reason Oiti exists: long-term memory that absorbs every edit so the writing gets more like you over time, a knowledge base you feed your YouTube videos, PDFs, articles, and meeting notes into, and research agents that search the live web for your ICP's pain points before a word is written — formatting and writing in one tool, instead of a formatter bolted to a separate writer.*

### 3. 3. AuthoredUp's LinkedIn formatting doesn't always work

AuthoredUp has exactly one Trustpilot review, and it's a 1-star:

> "Does not work. You do all your formatting, and then copy paste to LinkedIn and all formatting is gone."
> — [Jostein R. Hareide — Trustpilot, 1/5, 2025-03-22](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/authoredup.com)

![Trustpilot review by Jostein R. Hareide (Norway), 1/5, March 22 2025, titled "Does not work" — "You do all your formatting, and then copy paste to LinkedIn and all formatting is gone."](/comparisons/competitors/authoredup/reviews/trustpilot-jostein.webp) — Jostein R. Hareide on Trustpilot — 1/5, Mar 22 2025.

I want to be fair here.

This contradicts my experience — the formatting was rock solid every time I used it, in 2021 and again in 2026. But I'm not going to wave it away either: if formatting is the one thing you're paying for, it has to be bulletproof, and at least one user hit a wall. Might be a good idea to double check.

*Worth noting: formatting reliability is table stakes now — Oiti retains formatting when you paste anywhere into LinkedIn too.*

## AuthoredUp pricing — does it make sense in 2026?

AuthoredUp's pricing is one of the cleanest in the category. Here's the breakdown:

| Plan | Price | What you get | The catch |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Individual | $19.95/mo ($16.63/mo billed annually) | 1 profile — editor with text styling + live preview, full extension and platform access, unlimited drafts and snippets, 300+ hooks and post endings, 1-click post reuse, content analytics | Everything here is formatting, library, and analytics — there's no AI writing layer |
| Business | $14.95/profile/mo ($12.46 annually) | Everything in Individual, plus multiple profiles, AuthoredUp sub-accounts, organization management, team analytics, and draft collaboration | Minimum 3 profiles — this is the team/agency tier |
| Custom Growth | Contact sales | For larger orgs running many profiles | Minimum 10 profiles, annual only |

No credit card required to trial. No metered AI usage to blow past. The price is fair and the page is honest — refreshing in a category full of pricing traps.

So the critique isn't deception, it's value-for-money in 2026. You're paying for formatting, a static hook library, and analytics.

*For comparison, Oiti is $49/month (Creator) or $79/month (Pro), with yearly plans at $245 and $395 — more money, but it includes the entire AI content, memory, and knowledge-base layer. If formatting is genuinely all you need, AuthoredUp is the cheaper call — and a free formatter is cheaper still.*

## Who should buy AuthoredUp — and who should skip it

**Buy it if:** you only need formatting, a hook library, and basic analytics, you want to pay for the polish, and you're comfortable running a Chrome extension. For that exact person, AuthoredUp is good and fairly priced.

**Skip it if:**
- **You want posts that sound like you.** AuthoredUp doesn't write — it formats. If you want AI that learns your voice and gets sharper with every edit, that's the use case I built Oiti for, and it's where the gap is widest.
- **The extension/ToS category risk worries you.** Official-API tools sidestep the whole category LinkedIn is throttling.
- **You only format occasionally.** A free formatter does the job without a subscription.

**Maybe, if:** you want to find out for yourself — fine, AuthoredUp's trial needs no card. Run a free formatter and Oiti's 7-day trial in parallel and see whether you actually need a paid LinkedIn formatter at all. You'll know inside a week.

## What I'd actually use — and what I built Oiti to do differently

Three problems above, three answers for how Oiti, the world's first AI clone for LinkedIn content, does it differently.

- **On the extension and ToS risk ->** Oiti runs entirely on LinkedIn's official, approved APIs. No Chrome extension, no cookies, no automating engagement. There's nothing in the category LinkedIn is clamping down on, so there's nothing here that can get you flagged. If you've ever watched an account's reach get throttled, you know why this is the one I won't compromise on.
![Oiti's scheduling calendar — official-API publishing across connected LinkedIn accounts, no Chrome extension.](/comparisons/competitors/oiti/product-screenshots/full-feature-scheduling-calendar.webp) — Oiti's scheduling and publishing run on LinkedIn's official APIs — no extension in the category LinkedIn is throttling.

- **On the missing AI layer ->** This is the big one. Oiti writes in your voice, learns from every edit through long-term memory, and pulls from a knowledge base you feed — your YouTube videos, PDFs, articles, and meeting notes — plus live web research on your ICP's pain points before drafting. AuthoredUp formats what you bring it. Oiti writes it and formats it.
![Oiti's chat-based content composer with persona, memory, and Knowledge Base layers in the sidebar while it builds a post from the user's own story.](/comparisons/competitors/oiti/product-screenshots/content-creation-flow.webp) — Oiti's composer writes from your persona, long-term memory, and Knowledge Base — AuthoredUp only formats what you paste in.

- **On paying for one narrow thing ->** With AuthoredUp you pair a formatter with a separate writer. With Oiti it's formatting, AI content, viral infographics, knowledge base, and memory in one tool. One subscription, one workflow, one place your context actually lives.
![Oiti's Knowledge Base — uploaded YouTube transcripts, PDFs, articles, and notes that each draft is grounded in.](/comparisons/competitors/oiti/product-screenshots/knowledge-base.webp) — Oiti's Knowledge Base — one place your context lives, so writing and formatting happen in the same tool.

That's why Oiti is what I'd test in parallel — the AI Clone builds in about 30 seconds and the trial is 7 days with no usage limits.

## AuthoredUp vs the best AuthoredUp alternatives in 2026

If you're weighing AuthoredUp against a few alternatives, here's the breakdown:

| Tool | Price (from) | LinkedIn-native | AI writing | ToS-safe (official APIs) | Best for |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Oiti](/) | $49/mo | Yes | Yes (voice + memory + KB) | Yes | Solo founders/coaches/consultants who want posts that sound like them |
| AuthoredUp | ~$20/mo | Yes (extension) | No | No (extension) | Post formatting + analytics, not generation |
| [Taplio](/comparisons/taplio-review) | $39/mo | Yes | Yes (generic) | No (extension) | All-in-one content + outbound, if you accept the risk |
| [Supergrow](/comparisons/supergrow-review) | ~$19/mo | Yes | Limited | Yes | Budget content scheduling |
| [MagicPost](/comparisons/magicpost-alternatives) | ~$15/mo | Yes | Basic | Partial | Cheap scheduling + basic AI |

## FAQ

### Is AuthoredUp worth it in 2026?

If formatting is all you need — clean previews, line-break control, a hook library, basic analytics — then yes, it's worth it and fairly priced at $19.95/month. If you want AI that actually writes your posts, no: AuthoredUp doesn't have an AI writing layer at all. I used it years ago and logged back in to try it again in 2026, and the formatter is still excellent while the rest of the product stayed where it was. For most people searching this, the honest answer is "trial it free — no card needed — and see if formatting alone is enough for you."

### Is AuthoredUp safe to use with LinkedIn?

AuthoredUp itself has always been well-behaved — it doesn't automate likes, comments, connections, or DMs, which is why it earned its "ethical" reputation. The risk is categorical: it's a Chrome extension, and LinkedIn is increasingly hostile to extensions that ride on top of the platform. AuthoredUp didn't provoke that crackdown, but an extension can get caught in a broader sweep it didn't start. If that risk bothers you, official-API tools sidestep it.

### Does AuthoredUp have AI content?

No. AuthoredUp is a formatter, not an AI writer. The dashboard says an AI ghostwriter is on the way, but as of writing nothing has shipped. You bring your own words — typed yourself or generated in a separate AI tool — and AuthoredUp formats them.

### How much does AuthoredUp cost?

$19.95/month for the Individual plan (1 profile), or $16.63/month billed annually. The Business plan is $14.95 per profile per month with a 3-profile minimum, and Custom Growth is contact-sales with a 10-profile minimum, annual only. There's a free trial with no credit card required.

### Is AuthoredUp's formatting really "lost on paste"?

There's one Trustpilot review claiming formatting disappears on paste into LinkedIn. In my experience — in 2021 and again in 2026 — the formatting held up every time, and "lost on paste" usually points to a workflow or paste-target bug rather than the product being broken. But it's one data point worth knowing, especially since formatting is the core thing you're paying for.

### Are there free AuthoredUp alternatives for formatting?

Yes. If pure formatting is all you need, free tools cover it — including a [free LinkedIn Text Post Formatter](/tools/linkedin-text-post-formatter) you can use with no signup. Paid formatting only makes sense if you specifically want AuthoredUp's polish plus its hook library and analytics.

### How does Oiti compare to AuthoredUp?

The difference that matters: AuthoredUp formats, Oiti writes and formats. AuthoredUp has no AI layer — no persona, no memory, no knowledge base — so you pair it with a separate writer. Oiti reads your posts to build a clone of your voice, learns from every edit through long-term memory, pulls from a knowledge base you feed it, and runs on LinkedIn's official APIs instead of a Chrome extension. AuthoredUp is cheaper if formatting is all you want. If you want content that sounds like you typed it, [try Oiti free](/) for 7 days and write the same post in both.

## Verdict

AuthoredUp scored ~=2.8/5 on the axes that decide whether a LinkedIn content tool is worth paying for in 2026 — but that number hides the real story. As a pure LinkedIn content formatter it's a 4.5: the best in the category, fairly priced, genuinely good at the one thing it was built to do. As a complete content tool in the AI era it's a 2.8, because the AI, memory, and knowledge-base layers that matter most now are simply not there. So buy it if formatting, a hook library, and analytics are all you need and you want to pay for the polish. Skip it if you want posts that actually sound like you — that's the use case I built Oiti for, and it's where the gap is widest.
